The Department of Health and Social Care and Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport are consulting on secondary legislation for advertising restrictions on TV and online for products high in fat, salt or sugar.
In our response we called for the draft regulation be expanded to include alcohol, as a heavily promoted, age-restricted and harmful commodity. Children and young people are currently exposed to high levels of alcohol advertising; the marketing of a substance that is related to numerous mental and physical harms. Further considering the link between alcohol and obesity, it is imperative that regulations to improve the health of children and young people cover alcoholic drinks.
